Poker Position: Why the Button Is So Valuable

Understand UTG, CO, BTN, SB, and BB, and why position shapes preflop and postflop decisions.

Position determines when you act. The later you act, the more information you have about the other players' ranges and bet sizes.

The button is usually the most profitable seat because it acts last postflop. The blinds are difficult because they often play out of position after already investing forced money.

The same hand changes value by seat. KTo may be a reasonable button open in some games, but it is usually too loose from UTG.
