What Is a 4-Bet in Poker?
Learn what 4-bets represent, how ranges are built, and why transparent strong-only ranges are easy to play against.
A 4-bet is another raise after a 3-bet. It grows the pot quickly and usually represents a very strong range.
If your 4-bet range is only AA and KK, strong opponents can respond perfectly. If it is too loose, you put too much money in with weak hands.
Start with value, then add a small number of blocker-based bluffs against opponents who 3-bet too often.
Three Rules to Remember
- 4-bets build big pots fast.
- Too narrow becomes transparent.
- Know your plan versus a shove.
